| On "Meet the Press" former Secretary of State Colin Powell crossed party lines and endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States. He also repudiated his Republican Party for moving too far to the right. During that same interview, Powell referred to the death of a Muslim soldier, Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan of Manahawkin, N.J., who was killed in Iraq on Aug. 6, 2007. Powell framed the entire "Obama is a Muslim" debate in striking terms with his reference to this fallen American soldier. "He was 14 years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he could go serve his country, and he gave his life," Mr. Powell said. "Is there something wrong with being Muslim in America? No, that's not America,"Powell added.
