| "You're Cleared For Take-Off"
As the Air-to-Air combat exercise of Pitch Black 08 begins to spreads its wings, the tempo picks up for the Air Traffic Control members of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as they control the skies over Darwin for both military and civilian aircraft.
From the tower the Air Traffic Control officers command the skies bringing escorting traffic in and out of the Darwin Airspace. Surrounded by technology the effort is smooth and seamless as the expertly trained Air Traffic Controllers work under heavy pressure.
After looking at the radar, checking wind speed, and taking calls across the radio we see a pan of the entire tower as they work to line up a series of Royal Australian Air Force aircraft.
After clearing a civilian Albatross, a RAAF F/A 18 followed by the F-111 'Pig' and a Boeing 707 refueller take-off into the Darwin skyline.
Pitch Black 08 is positioning to be the largest Exercise of its kind to date, involving an increased number of participating foreign nations.
RAAF Pitch Black 08 is the major RAAF exercise of the year. |
